Welcome to Radford University’s Academic Engagement office that is dedicated to finding experiences for our students and faculty beyond the confines of the classroom. Academic Engagement seeks opportunities to practice in real time situations what our students are learning in the classroom.
In the recent past internships have been recognized by most colleges and universities as one of the best methods for students to find experiences that support academic instruction in the classroom with applied practice and examples. We know these practical experiences also provide a strong tool that can be leveraged into full time employment options after graduation.
Now in the fall of 2009 and spring of 2010, Radford University considers this not only an important tool but a critical element of experience that each of our graduates must have upon graduation. Our University’s Strategic 7 -17 plan and this office’s goals include the development of citizens for the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and the world who can meet the challenges of the contemporary workplace.
The Radford University graduate connects scholarship to the community. We believe you will find our students possess:
- Strong academic preparation in a variety of disciplines that has been fostered by close relationships with our faculty
- An appreciation for and capacity for hard work as many of our students not only work part time, participate in internships, and carry a full academic load but they are also very involved in a variety of clubs and organizations
- A desire to succeed, excellent interpersonal skills and an enthusiasm that enables them to take advantage of work opportunities where they can build skills and experience.
Please let me know if you are interested in finding students who can complete projects for you either as an intern, as part of the “Highlanders in Action” internship teams, or as part of a research project in a specific class supervised by a faculty member. --Dr. Kathyrn Jordan, Director.
